I am looking for information on the Provisional Posting Journal, and how people are using this feature in the Adagio Ledger.

What I am looking to do and want to understand if this is the feature necessary to do it is to have a junior staff member create month end journal entries and provisionally post them so that I can review the final balance in the account to ensure that the entry was entered correct and that this is the final account balance I want. But I don't want to have to post another adjustment if one of the initial ones was incorrect.

I hope this makes sense and someone can help me understand this feature and how they are using it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If the "allow unpost/reverse batch" is checked in the Company Profile, you could simply unpost and change any batches that contained errors.

Ralph's right, but many people use provisional posting in the manner you've described.

Ok I tried a provisional post and I thought it would show the journal entries in the detail listing so that I would get an idea of the ending balance in each account before actually posting the entries, but all I get is a provisional post batch print out, and I can't see any change in the detailed listings or the trial balance? So does this function not actually "provisionally post" the entries into the accounts? And if not then what is the point of using it? Please help?

You'll see the updated balances in your financial statements if you click "on" the "Include provisional Posting" options (a button with "P" on the financial reporter toolbar. Transactions do not show up in the detail listing until they are really posted.

After a batch is posted provisionally, a new field will become available on the Trial Balance report, allowing you to print the Provisional postings either included in the account balances or printed separately. The default choice is 'Excluded', so you have to change it to a different choice in order to see the provisional posted amounts.

You will not see this option if you haven't actually posting any batches provisionally.

Thank you for your quick replies, can you clarify something a little further for me as I can't seem to find how to change the default. So I have a batch that the status says "Prov. Posted" so are you saying that I should now be able to go into my trial balance report and change as noted below, but I am not seeing any such option?

Thanks again for your help on this one!

Yes, there will be a field labeled 'Provisional postings' underneath the checkboxes and above the print destination. A drop-down field with 3 choices will also be visible. You should also see a 3rd 'Report style' choice called Provisional Worksheet.

If you don't see these choices, then something else is wrong.

Excellent I can see it now, not sure what happened the first time I tried, but I will take it.

Thanks for all the help!
