Hi, I recently tried to update my client's Adagio Receivable from 8.1A (070603) to 9.0A (090511). The update was installed from workstation, no error during the update process. After the update finished, I ran AR9, it asked to convert database to the new version. Then an error message: "Critical Error: (1212) invalid path to data dictionary" popped up. The process stopped there.

The client has Adagio Ledge 9.0A and Adagio LanPak 9.0B installed beside Adagio Receivable. All of them are updated with the most recent service packs.

Data integrity check came up clean for the receivable database. I've tried uninstall and reinstall the update, but still getting the same error. Just wondering if anyone can help

Hi David,

Adagio loads dictionaries from the \softrak\dict directory, and a '1212' error is indicative of one or more required dictionaries being mis-dated or missing. Does your client use any other Adagio programs in addition to Ledger and Receivables?

To start with, check the file dates of the @R90AI.ssi and @R90AR.ssi files - these are the Receivables 90A dictionaries. If either are missing or have a file date different than March 19, 2009, this is the problem. You would need to get everyone out of Adagio programs, remove these 2 files, and re-install the Receivables upgrade.

I assume that when you mentioned that the integrity check was clean, you are referring to using Adagio Receivables 81A and a back-up of the data prior to conversion. This error is not related to the data.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

my client only have Adagio Ledger and Receivable module installed, and the Lanpak that was required for the update

the file date for the @R90AI.ssi and @R90AR.ssi matches March 19, 2009. And the 2 files are located inside the \softrak\dict directory. I tried to remove the 2 files and re-install the Receivable upgrade, but it still gives out the same error

and yes, I was using Receivable 8.1A to check the data integrity

***Edited***

I tried to ran Receivable 9 Sample data, it prompted me for the following

EZFile Directories

Please confirm the location of required program files.

The currency file and task files are typically located in the Adagio \SOFTRAK\SYSTEM directory

I entered in the \softrak\system directory for both currenty and task files. After that, it gives out the same error message: Critical error: (1212) invalid path to data dictionary

Hi, David,

Problems with dictionary files that have taken on the date of an install usually don't show themselves until a subsequent install. It could be that your installs of LP9.0B or AR9.0A were just fine but 'triggered' a problem from an earlier install.

Please check the following files in Softrak\Dict and their dates:

@R80AI.xxi 4/25/2008
@R80AR.ssi 5/05/2008
@R80BI.ssi 6/23/2008
@R80BR.ssi 6/23/2008

You've already confirmed the dates of the two AR9 dictionaries are correct.

If any of the files is missing or has a different date, get everyone out of Adagio again, rename the file(s) and reinstall AR9 again. Always ensure an install is done from a workstation that is connected to the server via a LAN and not while logged onto the server itself.

Also, please ensure Ledger 9.0A is current (i.e. not earlier than 080402, later is good).

Hi,

the 4 files are all present in the softrak\dict folder, and the date matches. However, I did find the some of the files was dated on the date when Ledger was updated to 9.0A 080402). I renamed the files and reinstalled Ledger 9.0A (080402), the files now have the correct date. But Receivable 9 still gives out the invalid path to data dictionary error.

Hi, David,

I know you've indicated they are only using Ledger, Receivables and Lanpak. However, when you look at their datapath, do you see any data files other than those beginning with AR and GL (as well as the ADSPROF.xxx file)?

I'm wondering if, at some point, they did have/create some other data that is now causing the 1212 error.

Hi, David,

I'll take a look at these. What I was referring to earlier were the data files which would be stored in their data folder.

Would you refer to my earlier message and check for the existence of files, other than ADSPROF, AR* and GL*? Thanks.

Hi, David,

The date that keeps jumping out at me is 3/06/2009. This date doesn't match the date for the dictionaries its associated with. As well, I note that the ALWIN folder has a date of 3/06/2009.

Based on the dictionary files with this date and the folder date, I believe those dictionaries took on the date of an ALWIN (or GL8.1A) install that occurred on March 6th. As that date is later than the date that should be associated with the files, they are not being properly updated by subsequent installs.

I removed the files that were dated at 03/06/2009, and reinstalled the ALWIN update that was applied on 3/06/2009, the DICT folder now listed as this:

It looks like the file dates have been corrected. But it still gives out the invalid path to data dictionary error.

*** Edited ***

I uninstalled Receivable 9.0A and reinstalled it, this time it was able to convert the database. It looks like the Ledge update was the cause of the problem.
