I am trying to delete an account, using version 9.0B. I deleted the history and this department i want to use the department for something else. The only on transaction had occurred three years ago. Its not letting me delete that account a few of them actually. All is well to reuse that department but dont want those accounts. How to?

Hi Suzanne

You can't delete an account with transactions, even a transaction from three years ago.

What is there error message you get when you try to delete the account?

Yes there was, it said 'Accounts with current or historical values cannot be deleted'. And tried deleting the historical transactions and they say zero. I wanted to use that department now as those projects will never happen again and there was only one transaction in it, i just have four accounts now in that department that i cannot delete. And I find our GL Accounts is getting a bit much cuz of all the activities that have gone on over the years and before my time. I am now starting new project and wanted a cleaner chart of accounts and thought id use that department.

Hi Suzanne,

You can make departments 'inactive' by editing a department and removing the 'department active' selection. This will make the department and all associated accounts inactive. You can then choose to hide inactive accounts from the Edit Accounts and the account Finder screens, which would remove the clutter of departments that you don't use anymore. Perhaps this would be a better solution than purging transactions and deleting accounts.
