I'm having difficulty my closing 2009 G/L.
I've taken the following steps. Printed my journals & batch status reports. Went into "Maintenance" and "Closed Income and Expense Accounts."
Then I select "Close Current Fiscal Year" from the "Maintenance" menu. I'm then asked "Do you want to close Fiscal Year", I'll select "Yes". Then the program checks for proceedures to perform before Year End can occur. That's where I get hung up. The item that remains outstanding to perform is: "Prior Year Posting journal - Must print & clear first".
When I go to "Post" > "Print Posting Journals" I don't see a prior year option for printing a 2008 Journal. I'm sure I did that last year. Any ideas?

Go to the Post menu. From the 'Print Posting Journals' menu and the fly-out, pick Print Posting Journal.

At the top are the available fiscal years. You probably will see 3 choices, the 2008 prior year, the 2009 current year and the 2010 next year. Click the 2008 option, and if you haven't already printed a copy of the report, this is the place to do so. You should get a question for purging the report after it has been printed to paper or an electronic file.

If you already have a copy of this report, then you can set Year End to purge all of the posting journals for you without having to print them (again). In the Company Profile, go to the Posting/Reports tab and look for the option 'Allow Post Journal Purge'. If this is not selected then not only will printing the posting journal not ask about purging, but Year End will delete all the posting journal data files for you.

Hello,
I've done all of the above and my settings were already set to Auto print posting journal after post and Allow post journal purge.
It still won't close. It seems to me that there is a problam with the data. What is the effect of Purge Fiscal Year? Would that work?
Thanks.

The "Allow posting journal purge" option in the company profile must be turned OFF to have the year end process purge the journals.

In order to see the prior year on the Print Posting Journal window, you'll need to ensure 'Enable prior year posting' is turned on in the Company Profile. It can always be turned off again after the journal is printed and purged.

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that the 'allow purge' must be turned on for a moment. Print and purge your BATCH STATUS REPORT. Then go back into your options and turn 'allow purge' off, to allow automatic purging by the yearend procedures.

The allow purge button is for posting journals, not for the Batch Status Report. Regardless of the setting for the allow purge button, you will have to print and clear the Batch Status Report. It is usually not a long report.
