Hello Support:
What is your current statement on Adagio running on Windows 8? The official statement from April of 2012 says it will likely work but "More detailed compatibility information will be provided as soon as it is available". Thank you.

Bruce:

I asked this recently, apparently there is no further update.

We have an in house Windows 8 workstation running Adagio from our server. Had issues that were mainly Windows 8. It currently seems to be stable but I wouldn't be keen to implement it at a client's site. Perhaps we've become overly cautious.

I had a client install on Win8 without asking me first.

They ran into some issues with the dictionary files and I had to copy the ones from my system to theirs, but once those were corrected, they seem to be running okay.

This, however, is on a single sysem, not on a network.

Thank you Doug, Terry and Ralph:
Apparently you fellows on the west coast are the technology leaders! Based on your experiences and with no update to Softrak's position, I think the prudent recommendation to any user is to stay with Windows 7 if possible. That's hard to do if one is purchasing a retail computer because those are mostly Windows 8. However computers intended for the business market are easily obtainable as Windows 7 since very few corporations have plans to adopt Windows 8 (yet).

I will have to do a Windows 8 install for multiple workstations and Windows 2012 soon. I have a Windows 8 computer running in our production environment. However, it is not a heavy user of Adagio. Hopefully, there isn't any problem.
I was able to install Adagio, PrintBoss, PayDirt, SnagIt, Rental for Adagio, etc and my Start List is almost impossible to read because I have pages and pages of tiles.

Unless somebody knows how I could have a different view of the tiles in the start list, I would like to request Softrak to make a new Workstation setup to show only 1 tile per module instead of 4 or 5. I was able to accomplish this by creating an Adagio folder inside C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. This folder only contains shortcuts to the Modules where other shortcuts exist.

Hi Patricia,

If the workstations aren't using touch screens (All In One), I'd dump the tiles (though on touch screens they're great). There's a free program called Classic Shell (http://www.classicshell.net/) that replicates the old Windows Start Screen. I haven't tried it because I'm using Windows 8 on a Surface tablet.

Here's a tip I learned at a recent workshop.

Make the "Desktop" tile the first tile in your set. Then, after typing your password to log on, press and hold the Enter Key for "1-Mississippi, 2-Mississippi" and you'll be taken directly to the desktop.

Thanks for the tip Andrew, but it only works with a real keyboard, not the virtual keyboards. But why would you use Windows 8 unless you had a touch screen? I've talked to a couple of people and they had no trouble getting Windows 7 put on their new computer(s) instead of Windows 8.

We are recommending to buy Windows 7. This client needs the Windows 8 computers for another solution. I can install a program to show the Start button for my computer but it is up to our clients' IT support person to install anything else that is not Adagio or Adagio Related.

Going to the desktop is not an issue. The issue is looking for information on the start list when you are showing all the installed applications.
