Since we updated AP to 8.1f, entering invoices brings this error message: "Unable to open data file jobs@J65AJOB (1213)".

We're stumped. What happened? What do we do?

Thanks

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Do you use Adagio JobCost and if so, what is the JobCost version? What version of Payables did you have prior to installing the upgrade?

We are not aware of any problems in accessing the jobs file, provided that no errors occurred in the installation.

The error is due to looking for the existence of the Adagio JobCost jobs file but either cannot locate it or the file is locked on the server and inaccessible. If you do not use Adagio JobCost, it may be that you have extraneous files in your data directory related to JobCost that should not be there.

You may need to get your Adagio consultant to assist with this problem, especially if it was caused by a problem during the installation process or files locked on the server.

Hi. We use Adagio JobCost version 8.1c. We were on Payables 8.1e before the error.

By "locked on the server and inaccessible" do you mean our network server? Don't have one, we are running stand-alone.

Everything was fine until this AP update. Called Adagio support and they wanted $150 to talk to us about the problem.

Hi Dennis,

Can you replicate the problem on a copy of sample data? Specifically the sample data installed by Adagio JobCost in the \softrak\ajwin\samdata directory, which has JobCost data integrated with Payables. This can assist in determining if the problem has to do with your data directory, or something else such as program files, dictionaries, locked files and so on.

I tried replicating by installing Adagio Payables to a new computer - completely standalone from a network - and could not replicate a problem. This means that there is something non-standard about your configuration, or something failed during the upgrade install, or other possible scenarios that are difficult to troubleshoot over a support forum. This is why I suggested contacting your Adagio consultant.

OK, tried your suggestion with the sample data.

Got the same error message. This happens when we try to make a new entry.

I wonder if the data conversion to AP 8.1f messed up both our file and the sample file? We had to run the conversion on both.

Hi Dennis,

Data conversion only updated the security groups for new features and did not affect batch entry. The error you are reporting would not be as a result of the data conversion in either your data or the sample data.

If you are using Adagio JobCost 8.1C, and have the integration in the AP company profile set to Adagio JobCost (as opposed to Accpac Job Costing), then the JobCost dictionaries used to locate the job data are the @J81C* files, located in the \softrak\dict directory and have file dates of May 2, 2012. If these dictionaries are missing in your installation, or have a different file date, then this could also be a cause. The error message you originally posted indicates @J65AJOB, which is the 6.5A version of the dictionary.

The upgrade to Adagio Payables 8.1F has a fix for invoice entry when integrated to JobCost 8.1C; this text is from the release notes and the readme help:
When entering invoices in Payables 8.1E with JobCost 8.1C you received the error "Unable to find data dictionary Alert Functions @J81AART, (1212)" in some cases.
This was addressed in a previous hot fix for AP 8.1E, and included in the Payables 8.1F upgrade. Apart from this and the ability of showing Job Estimate style colors in the lookup grid, nothing else changed in regards to invoice entry and integration with JobCost.

The J81C* files are there with that date.

Time to contact my consultant? I am not the user of Adagio, but a part time employee and I travel 10 miles each way to this office just to check suggestions on the bookkeeper's PC. Diagnosing this consequently is taking days. Still no idea what happened.

I checked this out today. All is as DennisG says it is. Payables is linked to Adagio Job Cost, not ACCPAC JC. The @JC81C files match the dates you gave us. There are no @J65AJOB files in the \softrak\dict folder which is probably why Adagio is giving an error. But why is Adagio looking for this file instead of the Adagio JC 8.1C file?

This error appeared with the Payables 8.1F update. No problems before running 8.1E.

I have a call into Softrak Tech and I sent an email with some screen shots.

Just got off of the phone with Matt. He unzipped the @J81A dictionaries onto Dennis's system and this resolved the problem.

Thanks for both of your efforts here and I'll report the issue to R&D for you.
